About our Student Counsellor Placements

We appreciate greatly the extra value that students on placement can bring to the work we undertake with clients and also consider that, by taking on students, we are fulfilling our role to raise mental health awareness.

We are looking for volunteer counsellors to join our low-cost counselling service. In return, you will gain excellent experience of working with a diverse client group and enhance your knowledge and understanding of mental health issues.

If you are in your final Diploma year (or equivalent), or are looking for extra counselling hours for accreditation, please contact our team. We would love to hear from you.

Interested in joining our team? You can download an application form below, and can send application forms marked for the attention of the ‘Counselling Team’, Mid Kent Mind, 23 College Road, Maidstone, Kent, ME15 6YH.

Alternatively, you can send an e-mail to counselling@midkentmind.org.uk, or call us on 01622 692383 if you would like more details.

The Application Process

– Send the completed application form to Mid Kent Mind (CVs are not accepted).

– You will be contacted to let you know if you will be shortlisted for an interview.

– On the day of the interview, you will meet with members of the counselling team. We encourage questions so please feel free to note anything down you wish to ask.

– If successful, you will be invited to attend a Student Counsellor Induction session. This will cover working at Mid Kent Mind, your role as a student and the policies and procedures you will need to be familiar with and adhere to, including safeguarding and confidentiality. This session will also brief you on the training you need to undertake in order to be formerly recognised as a Mid Kent Mind volunteer.

If you have any questions about a counselling placement with MKM, then please e-mail counselling@midkentmind.org.uk.
