Maidstone and Mid-Kent Mind are partnering with Surge to offer Youth Self Defence Classes In Maidstone.
Over the course of six, one-hour long sessions, young people will have the chance to interact with new people, build their own social networks and take part in physical activity to promote better overall physical wellbeing.
Here’s a little bit from the course tutor, Heather:
“Over the years of teaching, the best reward of teaching is when I receive feedback saying how they’ve seen a change within themselves or their children in regards to confidence. Confidence and self esteem are half the battle when learning self defence. Many of us don’t know how capable we are until it’s discovered. Many people just need to be told it’s ok to hit the pad as hard as they can or it’s ok to take time to learn techniques. Often, the rest is history. People discover new parts of them which leads to a rise in confidence.
It’s really important to me that no matter how many or who is In a class, that everyone laughs and has fun! I believe as people, we learn a lot more through laughter and enjoyment than having strict rules and routine!”
These sessions are intended to encourage the benefits of meeting other young people within a constructive environment, by allowing young people to learn new skills whilst also building their social networks.
These sessions will be FREE thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund. Sessions will be appropriate for young people aged 11 to 17.
Taking place from the 25th of July 2019.
12:30pm – 1:30pm at MMK Mind, 23 College Road, Maidstone, Kent, ME15 6YH.
