FREE Calligraphy Summer Camp Open to young people aged 9 - 17.

Thanks to National Lottery funding, Mid Kent Mind are excited to be able to provide FREE Calligraphy sessions for young people in the Mid Kent area. These sessions are delivered as a part of our Reaching Communities Programme.

This new programme of Wellbeing Calligraphy will be provided for young people between the ages of 9 and 13, and between the ages of 14 and 17. These small group sessions will be delivered during the Summer Holidays and will be provided in person at our office in Maidstone (ME15 6YH).

Sessions for ages 9 to 13 will run in the morning, whilst sessions for ages 14 to 17 will run in the afternoon. Sessions begin week commencing 15th August and will last for 4 consecutive days. Young people need to be able to attend all four days.

This programme aims to provide a fun, hour-and-a-half long activity which will enable young people to have the opportunity to get creative and learn something new – whilst also having fun and focussing on positive wellbeing. The groups also provide an opportunity for young people to build their support networks – allowing them to make new friends across the Summer Holidays.

Sessions are broken down as below:

Ages 9 – 12 | 10am – 11:30am | Monday 15th August – Thursday 18th August

Ages 13 – 17 | 12noon – 1:30pm | Monday 15th August – Thursday 18th August

These sessions will encourage young people to develop basic skills around calligraphy – whilst also developing positive social skills and good levels of wellbeing. The sessions will give them the opportunity to learn calligraphic alphabets, and to work with various calligraphy tools. They will learn how to join letters together to make words, full sentences, and to design their own quote to inspire positivity.

The equipment required to transfer their calligraphy to various different items, will be provided, such as wooden/slate name plates, book marks, cards and tote bags. They will be encouraged to get creative and design and create wonderful, colourful pieces of calligraphic artwork, with support, based on each individual needs. All the work produced can be taken home after each session, promoting a sense of positive achievement.

At the end of the Workshop/Camp, all attendees, will each receive their own Calligraphy pen to enable them to continue practising their new Calligraphy skills as well as a certificate for completing the workshop.
