Walking In Nature. A new group funded by Natural England. Mid Kent Mind & Natural England logos.

Walking In Nature is a brand new programme which has been generously funded by Natural England – building on the success of Mid Kent Mind’s long-standing walking groups, and the benefits that physical activity can have on both our mental health and our wellbeing.

Where this group differs from traditional groups is that it will layer in a focus on Mindfulness – encouraging participants to immerse themselves in their surroundings and think more about how being in a natural environment can be beneficial. Over the course of these sessions, participants will be encouraged to take in their surroundings – connecting with some of the unique smells, sights and sensations that they may experience, whilst also allowing them to notice how the world around us changes through the seasons.

We will also allow people to connect more with the heritage of the local outdoors spaces we are lucky to be able to access here in Maidstone – empowering them to connect more with the history of our local park, Mote Park.

Sessions begin on Tuesday the 3rd of January from 1:30pm till 3:30pm, where they will then run subsequently every Monday from 1:30pm till 3:30pm.

The group will have two meeting points – with clients able to either join us at our office (ME15 6YH) promptly at 1:30pm where we depart for Mote Park, or they can join us directly at Mote Park from 2pm – enabling them to choose between a shorter or longer walk depending on their preference.

This is an open access group, but service-users will need to register with Mid Kent Mind beforehand so that we can register clients and ensure that they are appropriate for the group.

Registration can be completed either by calling 01622 692383, or by e-mailing mindhelp@midkentmind.org.uk expressing a desire to join the group.

We are delighted to be able to share that we applied for this funding directly off of the back of feedback from both our staffing team and our existing service users. We hope that people are excited to join us for a new walking activity in Early 2023 and are very grateful to the Natural England team for making this service possible.
