Mid Kent Mind’s MHA training is broken into Tier One & Two training, and then specific topics which aim to help people to learn more about specific areas of mental health.

UPDATE: Our Social Media & Mental Health training has now joined the ‘Mental Health Awareness’ family of training courses, too.


Tier One training provides you with a two-hour Mental Health Awareness session which looks at the following:

  • Basic Facts and Awareness
  • Latest figures on mild to moderate MH
  • Stress – Bottle and Bucket
  • Anxiety – Types, Causes and Signs
  • Depression – Types, Causes and Signs
  • What Helps – Six ways to wellbeing

Tier Two training goes into more intermediate levels of detail – exploring some of the more prevalent mental health problems which people may encounter, and exploring them in more detail. This training session lasts for three hours, and includes the following:

  • Basic facts and Awareness
  • Stress Bucket reminder and link to “Stress Signature of Acute Stress disorder”
  • Brief reminder of anxiety and depression
  • Self-Harm – Misconceptions and aversion techniques
  • Eating disorders – Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating, OSFED
  • Psychosis – 3 common forms – Warning signs

We then offer two high-end training packages focussing on understanding self-harm and eating disorders before exploring these sensitive topics in more detail.

We currently offer three distinct topical training sessions – Eating Disorder Training, Personality Disorder Training and Stress Awareness Training. These are complemented by an additional course – Social Media and Mental Health, which looks at the ties between Social Media and our wellbeing.


Eating Disorder Training


This is a three hour training session which includes the following:

Self-Harm – Facts and awareness

  • Recognise signs and understand the causes
  • Introduce the self-harm cycle
  • Myth busting and harm minimisation/delay techniques

Eating disorders – Facts and awareness

  • Recognise signs of Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating, OSFED
  • Understanding Body Dysmorphia and Muscle Dysmorphia (Bigorexia)
  • Understand cause and maintenance factors
  • Introduce the link between Autism and Anorexia Nervosa

Personality Disorder Training


This is a three hour training session which includes the following:

Personality Disorders

  • What are they?
  • How are they classified?
  • What are some of the associated symptoms?

Borderline Personality Disorder

  • How does BPD Differ?
  • When would someone be diagnosed with BPD?
  • How can someone develop BPD, and how would it be diagnosed?

Stress Awareness Training


This is a three hour training session which includes the following:

  • What is stress?
  • How do we differentiate between good and bad stress?
  • How can we manage stress using coping strategies?
  • How does stress impact our mind and body?
  • How can we identify when stress is unmanaged?
  • How can we spot when stress is contributing to the development of mental ill health?

Social Media & Mental Health Training


This two-hour training session focuses on one of the biggest challenges we face in the modern world – social media.

This course aims to dive into the way social media can impact on our mental health and wellbeing – exploring some of the facts and myths which we commonly think of when we associate our mental health with social media. This course will help to introduce you to the potential benefits social media can have on our mental health and wellbeing, whilst also exploring some of the negatives and drawbacks – helping you to develop a well-rounded perspective on the pros and cons when it comes to our digital activity.


Psychosis Training


This is a three hour training session which includes the following:

  • What is psychosis and what are psychotic disorders?
  • Risk factors/causes of psychosis and the impact of stress
  • Treatments and recovery

We recommend you undertake Tier One training before undertaking Tier Two training, as the content covered in Tier One is only briefly touched on in Tier Two training.

Similarly, you may wish to undertake Tier Two training before transitioning onto one of our topical training sessions.


We would  like to remind you that the topics undertaken as a part of this training can be sensitive for many. Please feel free to e-mail our team ahead of time if you are worried that the training we offer may be too distressing for you to undertake. It is important to us that the people accessing our training feel comfortable doing so.
