Mental Health Charity Launch Post-Pandemic Support Programme

Maidstone-based mental health charity Mid Kent Mind (MKM) are launching a brand-new programme of mental health support designed to support adults who need extra help with maintaining good levels of wellbeing as we come out of the most intense phases of the pandemic.

The organisation has been funded by Livewell Kent to provide a range of support to the local community thanks to the COMF (Contain Outbreak Management Fund) scheme put in place by the Government. Kayleigh Fuller, programme lead, says:

“I am proud that our organisation is able to provide even more mental health support to people in the wake of the pandemic thanks to the COMF fund. The money received as a part of this programme will be vital in enabling us to meet the additional need we are seeing as more people seek help with their mental health.

This is a wide-reaching programme for people in Kent, so I would like to encourage anyone who feels as though they may benefit from a little bit of extra support to get in touch. Our teams are here to support you.”

The programme the organisation has developed will provide a mixture of group support and one-to-one support for adults across Kent – excluding Medway.

The one-to-one support will take the form of a programme known as ‘A Better You’ – enabling people to access six weeks of sessions with one of MKM’s wellbeing workers, where people will have an opportunity to address areas which are negatively impacting their wellbeing.

The group support comes in the form of two programmes called ‘Life Skills’ and ‘Bringing Minds Together’. The former helps people to learn more about how they can positively manage their mental health proactively, and the latter is a peer support group themed around creative expression.

All of the support is available free of charge – with the hope being that it will enable the people most in-need to access support and begin to recover from the negative impact the pandemic may have had on their mental health.
