Who am I?
My name is Eloise and I have recently graduated from Bournemouth University with a degree in Public Relations. I joined the team at Maidstone & Mid-Kent Mind for a month-long placement from July until August to gain some valuable experience within the charity sector.
What have I been doing?
Whilst my time at MMK Mind, I have been assisting Tom with our social media content and promoting our upcoming events and fundraisers, most importantly our 2018 Fun Run! I have also been attending our weekly community activity groups where I have had the opportunity to get to know all of our wonderful service users. It has been great to be given the chance to attend these groups to fully understand the incredible work and support that MMK Mind offer to the local community.
Personal Development
During my time at MMK Mind, I have achieved the aim of the placement by gaining a greater understanding of the need for PR and Marketing within the charity sector. Most importantly, the effectiveness of building strong relationships with businesses and the public to gain funding for local charities. I have been greatly encouraged to express my creative flair and so, as a result, this has increased my ability to produce engaging social media content.
What have I learnt?
The most important thing I have learnt is the importance of local mental health charities to the public. MMK Mind offer a whole range of courses and well-being groups that are so valuable for the well-being of many individuals within the community.
